Dr. K S Narayanacharya

Dr. Kanakapuram Srinivasachar NARAYANACHARYA was born on 31 st October 1933 in an orthodox and devout family of Vedic scholars of Vadhula gotram.

He had his early education at Kanakapura (also called as Kaankaanhalli, Bangalore District) and secured First Rank in the matriculation. His further academic career continued at Mysore where he completed B.Sc., with physics and mathematics as major subjects but pursued his passion in literature and completed B A (Hons), English and M.A., (Modern English literature) from the University of Mysore. His doctoral thesis is on “The influence of Indian philosophy on W B Yeats and T S Eliot”.

He has penned over 180 books in Kannada and English and is a regular columnist for many popular dailies of Karnataka and has toured all over India giving discourses in Kannada, English and Tamil. He is popularly known as “Ramayanaacharya” for his knowledge of Srimad Vaalmeeki Ramayana and has been conferred the title as “Valmiki Hrudayagya”.

He was honoured with the first “Valmiki Prashasti” at the first world Ramayana Conference held at Bangalore during 2016. His writings spread over subjects from Vedas, SrimadraamaayaNa, Srimanmahabharata, Srimadbhagavadgeeta, Srimadbhagavatam, Alwars and Haridaasas, Acharya Chanakya, Agastya, (translated to Samskritam also), ‘Tiruppavai,’ ‘Tiruvaazmozi,’ ‘Tirumaalai,’ ‘Stotraratnam,’ “The basic concepts of Vishishtaavaidta” to contemporary subjects of national interests like “who killed Mahatma Gandhi”, “Subhaashara KaNmare” (absconding of Subhash Chandra Bose, a chapter of injustice), Valmiki yaaru? (Who is Valmiki?), Mataantara (Religious conversions). ‘Sri Ramajanmabhoomi Judgement’ etc. He has also written novels based on RamayaNa and Mahabharata without deviating from the original intent. Some of them look at Mahabharata/Bhagavata from the point of view of the female characters like “Mahamaate kunti Kanteredaaga” (Through the eyes of Kunti), Devakiya Chintanegalu (Thoughts of Devaki), Mahaa Prasthaana (Through the eyes of Draupadi). Most of these were published as serials in popular Kannada weekly magazines.


His work “Krishnaavataarada Koneya Galigegalu” (concluding moments of Sri Krishnaavataara) is very popular and has seen maximum number of reprints with over 20000 copies sold out). In this mythological novel, Dr K S N uses a new technique where in Sri Krishna recalls each and every character in his mind and through dialogues with them clarifies many doubts that might have remained in those characters like Kunti, Karna, Poothana, Duryodhana, Ghandhaari, etc., Similarly Sri Ramaavatara SampoorNavaadaaga, (When Ramavataara concluded), Sri Ramaayanada Maha PrasangagaLu, SrimadraamayaNada MahaavaakyagaLu etc. provides different dimensions in explaining complex subject in a very simple way. He therefore, has covered variety of subjects which include Vedas (10 volumes of Veda Samskruti Parichaya (Introduction to Veda Samskruti), Ramayana (Ramakathaa saara, Ramayana Paatra Prapancha, Ramayana Saahasree, etc) Mahabharatha ( Mahabharatha paatra prapancha, Vanadalli Paandavaru, Raajasuyada Rajakeeya, Sri Krishna and Mahabharata war, ‘Those eighteen days’ (of Mahabharata war in 2 volumes) in both kannada and English, The role of Sri Krishna in Mahabharatha (Gurudev Ranade Lecture series) Mahabharatha Kaala Nirnaya and many more. In spite of being 85, he is busy in writing books and giving discourses stretching over 30 to 45 days per session and 2 to 2.50 hours a day. All his writings and preaching are Adhyatma oriented with an element of Nationalism always attached to it. He is highly respected and consulted by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Svayam Sevak Sangh and his book on the Sri Ramajanmabhumi Judgment is also very popular. His straight and forthright statements in projecting and protecting the truth are very unique.

His popularity and reputation can be gauged by the fact that the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B S Yediyurappa (who was in Mysore on some official visit had come to know of the function) attended with some of his ministers to the inaugural function of Mahabharata series uninvited and requested Dr Acharya to suggest means to overcome the famine situation in Karnataka and Acharya had assured him on stage that Karnataka would receive enough rains during the ViraaTa Parva pravachana time and It poured heavily during the next two months creating a flood like situation in the entire Karnataka with all dams full. The chief minister narrated this incidence to the public when he visited K R S dam to offer pooja and Bagina to mother Kaveri and profusely thanked Acharya.
