Saṅgīta-darpaṇa

Saṅgīta-darpaṇa is a posthumous offering by Pt. Birju Maharaj ji to the art world and in particular, to Kathak. He considered it his sacred duty to his ancestors to bring forth the treasure of knowledge passed on by them. This special treatise on music and dance—preserved by Pt. Birju Maharaj’s ancestors for centuries—is now made available with the original Sanskrit text, editorial notes, and translation in English and Hindi. The work acts as a bridge between theory and practice. It contains a unique story of creation of the art and also throws light on the Maharaj Kathak lineage.
